Meet the Maker. We talk to Wioleta, the maker or the wonderful resin we love here at Steg and Rex, and owner of the wonderful small business Toddler Approves Resin

When did you start making resin? What or who was your inspiration?

I think it’s important to mention that my mum has a thousand of hobbies, she’s always learning new skills and keeps herself busy whether it’s making jewellery, soutache, crocheting, sewing - you name it.

I kept seeing lots of amazing play set ups using resin pieces mainly on American accounts and started looking for pieces to buy to add to our play tray.

When my mum saw that, she simply said “why don’t you make it yourself?”

And so I did… we started experimenting and learning about resin together. The process wasn’t as easy as we first thought but we persisted with it and eventually I started selling some of the pieces.

What do you like about resin resources?

I love that each piece I make is unique and there are no two pieces that are exactly the same. The best part of the process is always taking them out of the mould and seeing the effect that was created.

I also love that they can be used with almost anything - they can be added to water play, oobleck, sand, fizzy play, mud kitchen - possibilities are really endless.

Resin is a very durable material and as long as the care instructions are followed it will last a long time so once you’re done playing with your pieces you can pass them on for someone else to enjoy.

What has been your favourite resin creation?

It’s so hard to choose a favourite but I possibly love my last autumn/Halloween collection a little more than the others! I also really enjoy the process of making the ocean play board too! And of course I couldn’t forget about our dinosaur skeletons and volcanoes. I especially love seeing the volcanoes in action with all the fizz!

How do you juggle being a parent and having a business?

Having a small business is not easy in these times but my son is my biggest supporter (he’s always trying to keep every piece I make) and inspiration as I often come up with new ideas based on his interests or things I know he’d enjoy playing with!

We’re currently talking a break but hoping to be back in summer!
